How a solar CCTV site unit actually works

The unit is self-contained. A solar panel charges a battery through the day, and that battery runs the camera and recording equipment around the clock, including overnight and through stretches of overcast weather. There's no cabling back to a power point and no dependency on the site's own electricity.

The camera connects over the mobile network rather than the site's internet, since most sites don't have one yet. That's what makes remote viewing possible, checking footage from a phone without needing to be on site.

The whole unit sits on a freestanding pole, which is what makes it relocatable. It can be repositioned as the site changes, or picked up and moved to the next job entirely.

A visible deterrent, not just a recorder

A camera mounted clearly on a pole, with visible warning signage, does a lot of the work before anything ever happens. Opportunistic theft relies on a site looking unwatched.

Recording matters for investigation after the fact, but the visible presence of a monitored system is often what stops an incident before it starts.
